Happy Halloween! In honor of the creepiest holiday of the year, Dark Horse has provided The Beat with a horror comic to celebrate. Ripped from the pages of Dan Brereton’s Nocturnals Omnibus Edition, Vol. 1, we can exclusively share the entirety of “Punkinheads,” which follows Halloween Girl and her guardian, the Gunwitch, on a quest for the farthest trick-or-treat outpost.
Along the way, they run into an evil witch and her pumpkin-headed minions, derailing their candy mission.
You can read “Punkinheads” below. (Note: A page from the original ’90s publication has been removed for containing an offensive term. Its removal does not impact the plot.)
This story and others are featured in Nocturnals Omnibus Edition, Vol. 1, which Dark Horse published in 2021. The book collects previously-published Nocturnals volumes Black Planet, Witching Hour, Carnival of Beasts, Troll Bridge, and The Dark Forever.
Nocturnals Omnibus Edition, Vol. 2, followed its predecessor in 2022. It collects previously-published volumes The Dark Forever, Gunwitch: Outskirts of Doom, Spectres, and A Nocturnal Alphabet.
