Welcome to this week’s installment of The Beat’s Comics Crowdfunding Round-Up! Come with us to check out a story about parting ways, a detective who loves hot dogs, a superpowered bug, and two more stories we love!

What We Leave Behind

Creators: CoCo Comics Publishing
Goal: $394
End Date: September 30
Goodies: Get the digital copy for $6, get the physical copy for $10, or at higher tiers get the Jpatricks collection for $33.

8 Stories, 8 Genres, 8 Artists, 1 Writer. A comic short story collection written by James Patricks exploring the theme of Legacy.

A story about the highs and lows of Brockhamptons output, a psychological thriller about a too real costume, a police scientist that can predict the future, and much more. This anthology has something for every kind of fan. All this creativity to explore Patrick’s own anxieties about, simply put, what we leave behind. The anthology looks interesting and worth checking out the projects page. You wont regret it.

SAM HAWTHORNE: An Extra Layer of Onions

Creators: Jakob Luedtke (Creator)
Goal: $1,663
End Date: October 12
Goodies: Get the digital edition for $8, the physical copy for $28, or the hardcover for $45.

Grumpy, cynical, and spending way too much time trying to look cool in a second hand suit. Sam solves every case, one hotdog at a time.

At first glance it seems like this is just another project, that was until reading the bio for Jacob Luiedtke a 19 year old from Berlin Germany. He’s the creator of Sam Hawthorne his take on a tough as nails detective who just wants to take it easy. I couldn’t help but check out the comic that for just $8 can be yours. I’m excited to see why Sam has such a love for hotdogs and solving crime, all behind the idea of a 19 year old. Check out the project page, its worth a look.

Power Bug

Creators: Jaedyn Carmichael (Writer), Joao Leal Luiz (Artist)
Goal: $1,000
End Date: October 5
Goodies: Get a limited edition digital cover for $5 and the Power Bug: Synergi Archive for $15.

Through blood, sweat and tears, Virgil Starshine will prevail and to become the hero the world needs.

So this project has no promise of a physical release, in fact it just started and it is off to a slow pace. That being said I couldn’t help but look over the art on the project page. The design for power bug looks fantastic, kind of reminded me of a tokusatsu inspired ranger and I couldn’t help but want more. The comic is still very much a work in progress but for just $5 you can have your own art and support an independent artist. I can’t help but want more.

In addition to pitching a redesigned second release of Good Girl Laika, he now brings us the third volume of his ongoing series, Solace County! We did a piece on Good Girl Laika many moons ago, and here at The Beat, we’re absolutely thrilled to see Smith return with another exciting project. Don’t miss out—check it out before it’s too late!
