Events to look out for on Thursday include Deere’s results, US home sales and jobless claims data, and speeches from Fed officials:

Deere: Investors will be interested in comments from the world’s largest agricultural equipment maker, which is expanding production in northern Mexico, on president-elect Donald Trump’s promises to impose tariffs on the US’s trading partners. The tractor manufacturer is expected to report a 32.4 per cent decline in revenues, when it posts fourth-quarter earnings before the opening bell.

US existing home sales: Economists expect that sales of existing homes in the US increased in October to an annualised rate of 3.93mn units from 3.84mn in September.

Jobless claims: New applications for unemployment aid are forecast to have ticked up to 220,000 in the week ended November 16 from 217,000 seven days earlier.

Fedspeak: Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland president Beth Hammack will deliver welcome remarks at a conference hosted by her bank and the Office of Financial Research, while Kansas Fed president Jeff Schmid will speak at a luncheon hosted by the Fairfax Industrial Association. Michael Barr, Fed vice-chair for supervision, will take part in a discussion at the 2024 FinRegLab AI Symposium.
