Founded on April 13, 2023 by David Steinberger and Chip Mosher who were the former CEO and Head of Content of ComiXology, respectively, DSTLRY was created with the focus of ensuring creators have real equity and ownership. Through Commissioned Digital Remarques, creators will be able to have full control over pricing and availability for commissioned signatures and artwork and, most importantly, receive royalties from the initial sales and all secondary market transactions. This will also give fans who may not be able to attend cons in person a chance to receive unique, personalized digital signatures and/or sketches. Fans can log into the website and request personalized digital signatures and/or sketches from participating creators.

Already, it has received some positive reactions from creators as Becky Cloonan who sold their first digital Remarque on Jae Lee‘s cover for The Big Burn #1. Cloonan says that Digital Remarques adds “an exciting dimension for people who read and collect digitally.”

Commissioned Digital Remarques is also giving more agency and independence to creators. “From setting their own prices to managing timelines, creators call the shots, ensuring they’re fairly compensated for their work,” Mosher, CCO and co-founder of DSTLRY said. “It’s just another way DSTLRY is reimagining the creator-fan connection while putting creators first.”

Comic fans will know the challenge of collecting their favorite issues. Whether it’s because they’ve long been out of the market, they missed the sale, or for other reasons, it can be difficult to be a collector. DSTLRY’s Unlimited Digital Covers guarantees that there will always be one version of every DSTLRY digital issue available for purchase, thus ensuring that, as Steinberger, CEO and DSTLRY co-founder, says, “you’ll never miss out on your favorite stories.”

Fans can access main covers and sketch cover variants without any time restrictions or deadlines while collectible variant covers will be available for a week after its initial release before they’ll be made exclusively available on DSTLRY Marketplace where creators will be able to receive royalties from resales.

“Starting on release day, fans can grab a cover directly from DSTLRY whenever they want, at a price that stays consistent,” Mosher said. “It’s another way we’re making the DSTLRY experience as fan-friendly as possible.”
