Panick Entertainment’s debut title, T.A.M.A. #1 by Adam Schlagman (Flashpoint: Abin Sur), Doug Pasko (CW’s The Outpost), and Daniel HDR (Masters of the Universe), is releasing in comic shops on July 2nd, and we’ve got a first look at its main cover by Dustin Nguyen.
Panick Entertainment is one of the many news publishers on the comics scene for 2025. The company was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 with several comic figures forming the new company, including CEO Kris Longo (Former publisher of Heavy Metal Magazine and CEO of Modern Fanatic), Head of Studio, and Executive Editor Schlagman (Former VP at DC), COO Pasko (Screenwriter, The Outpost), CFO Charles Christopher Chiang (Former Manager of Finance for DC Comics), Chief Creative Officer Mark McCann (writer, editor, and illustrator), and Chief Advisor Chris Ryall (Former President IDW). Additional titles, Savager and Black Diamond, will be released this summer — with actor David Dastmalchian working with the company on a future project.
T.A.M.A. follows the struggling Kit, who finds a Furby-like figure that makes things quite dangerous for the young teen.
The series follows Kit, a grieving teen struggling with his own loneliness, who discovers a defunct virtual pet system, finding the companionship he desperately seeks in Tama. But when mysterious and gruesome tragedies begin to pile up around him, the boy wonders if his digital furry friend could somehow be the “virtual” common denominator. How far are both the kid and creature willing to go to seek attention, and how many will be hurt by this deadly beast that can somehow interact with the real world?
“The most memorable virtual pet from my childhood was the Furby I got on my birthday,” Pasko said. “I absolutely loved it, but then lost interest. I eventually took out its batteries to silence it. Not a day goes by writing issues for T.A.M.A. that I don’t think about how mad my Furby would be if it woke up one day. I have to say, I think Tama’s got a good reason to be just as mad too.”
“Dustin was the first artist I worked with as an editor at DC Comics and the person I instantly thought of when seeking to bring our first issue cover to life. He absolutely crushed it, stunningly depicting both the cute/good and horrifying/evil sides of Tama.” said Schlagman.
