CORONA EX serves as the official manga platform of TO Books, hosting titles like Ascendance of a Bookworm, Tearmoon Empire, and The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash. Readers can check out the first episode of every series for free, while a $4.50/month subscription unlocks ad-free reading and exclusive “Subscribers Only” chapters. That said, readers should proceed with caution: CORONA EX openly relies on machine translation, primarily Google Translate and INKR Studio, for many of its titles, which may lead to noticeable errors. While some series reuse licensed translations from publishers like J-Novel Club or Seven Seas, others use raw, unedited AI-generated text.

emaqi is a digital manga store available on web and app (iOS/Android) by AI-localization company Orange Inc. (not to be confused with the animation studio Orange). Available in the U.S. and Canada, it offers over 13,000 volumes from major publishers like VIZ Media, Kodansha USA, and Yen Press. The app includes free one-shots from Shonen Jump+, daily free chapters, and a Wait Until Free model (every 23 hours). Users can also buy volumes via in-app purchases. It features exclusive titles like Anjo the Mischievous Gal and The Vampire Dies in No Time. emaki utilizes AI-localization technologies to translate manga to English, which fans have criticized heavily.

NOTE: While Orange Inc. claims “no more than 10 percent” of the localization process is AI-assisted, they also state they will “increase the pace of manga localization currently done in Japan roughly fivefold, to 500 titles per month” and “increase localization capacity by 10 or 100 times” from the current state with their small team of approximately 20 human translators, raising serious questions about the true extent of AI involvement. Against my suspicions, I have too much respect for real translators, editors, letterers, and typesetters to recommend this service. I won’t be using it, so read at your own conscience.
