A classic anime series produced by Nippon Animation, Romeo’s Blue Skies first aired in 1995 and reached a wide variety of international audiences. However, American broadcasters deemed the show “too emotional” and never brought it stateside or dubbed it in English. That makes the upcoming Blu-ray release from AnimEigo and Media OCD all the more exciting, as it introduces this well-loved series to new audiences.

A trailer for the release is now available to watch, giving fans a first look at the beautifully remastered footage.

Based on Lisa Tetzner’s 1941 Swiss novel Die Schwarzen Brüder (The Black Brothers), the series follows:

When You’re Feeling Sad and Lonely, Look To The Sky

Romeo, a poor kid living in a Swiss village, bravely sells himself into servitude as a chimney sweep to save his family. On his way to Milan, he meets a mysterious boy named Alfredo, and they become fast friends. Life as a chimney sweep is hard and dangerous. But together, and with the help of some new friends–the “black Brothers”–Romeo and Alfredo find themselves striving for a better life.

Here’s what fans can expect from the Blu-ray release:

  • $59.95 SRP

  • 33 episodes remastered in HD widescreen across 3 discs (Region Free)

  • Series also presented in original 4×3 SD

  • Clean opening and ending sequences (SD)

This release is a must-have for anime fans who appreciate emotionally driven stories and timeless animation. The Blu-ray officially drops on July 29, but pre-orders are now open on Media OCD’s website. Ordering directly helps support projects like this, though the set will also be available through Amazon and Crunchyroll at launch for added convenience.

This July, dive into a story rich with emotion, classic animation, and unforgettable performances.
