Okay, My Life With The Walter Boys Fanatics… am I the only one this mad about the Skylar/Nathan/Zack storyline?
I know it was supposed to play second fiddle to Jackie’s ongoing inability to choose between Cole and Alex, but come on!
Nathan had way better chemistry with one of the boys than the other, only to be left out in the cold at the end of My Life With The Walter Boys Season 2.
I Was Way More Invested in Nathan/Zack than Nathan/Skylar
Nathan began his relationship with Skylar in My Life With The Walter Boys Season 1, and honestly, I’ve forgotten most of what happened between them before.
That’s not entirely the series’ fault.
With a 20-month gap between seasons (thanks, Netflix!), it’s hard to remember all the details of any of the storylines.
However, I didn’t find Nathan and Skylar all that rootable this time around, and I shouldn’t have had to rely on their history to be excited about them.

For the first third of the season, Skylar’s distant and disinterested attitude towards Nathan’s ideas for the school paper made him an irritating character. Meanwhile, Zach took a real interest in Nathan and encouraged him.
It was a no-brainer which of the guys Nathan should end up with, given that set-up, and it didn’t hurt that Nathan had more chemistry with Zach than with Skylar.
There were zero hints that Zach was anything other than what he appeared to be, although Nathan kissing Zach while supposedly dating Skylar wasn’t cool.
I suppose that Zach’s refusal to discourage it counts as a red flag, but still.
That registered with me as normal teenage behavior, at least on TV dramas, and definitely not a dealbreaker or a sign that Zach was secretly into Skylar.
My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2 Put Zach and Nathan Together Just to Blow It Up

There are times when it’s warranted to bring two people together, only to turn the dream relationship into a nightmare.
That’s the pattern for every abusive relationship there is, on TV and in real life.
However, even in those cases — which, to be clear, was not what happened here — there are subtle signs that someone is bad news even in the love-bombing phase of the relationship.

The audience usually sees those types of relationships more clearly than the characters do, and they root for someone to escape the abuse.

Instead, Zach and Nathan got together, only for Skylar to randomly say that Zach was bad news and Zach to admit to his obsession with Skylar.
That led to Zach and Nathan breaking up and Skylar rejecting both guys, making the entire story feel like a waste of time.
This Love Triangle Could Have Been a Compelling Plot that Highlighted LGBTQ+ Issues
The Skylar/Nathan/Zach triangle had many of the same ingredients as Jackie’s romantic dilemma, only with guys fighting over each other instead of two guys fighting over a girl.
Unfortunately, it fizzled out quickly with the reveal that Zach was never actually into Nathan, which dampened the LGBTQ+ representation in this story.

It’s incredibly disappointing, making a potential redo one of the top items on my list for My Life With The Walter Boys season 3, even though I have no idea how that would work.
