Marvel has a new Silver Surfer. No longer is Norrin Radd the wielder of the Power Cosmic, having passed it down to a surprising new character in the Marvel stable in the latest issue of Death of Silver Surfer. Light spoilers ahead if you’ve yet to read Death of Silver Surfer #4!

In his final moments in life, Norrin Radd — a stalwart of Marvel’s cosmic stable — chose to give access to the Power Cosmic to Kelly Koh, a special agent who had been serving as a foil to the Silver Surfer throughout the earlier issues of this mini-series. According to a press release from Marvel, it now appears Koh will be the Silver Surfer for the publisher moving forward. The House of Ideas said Koh even has the approval of Marvel’s First Family to be the next Sentinel of the Spaceways!

“The Silver Surfer has always been famously one of Marvel’s most emotionally tormented characters, and Kelly with the Power Cosmic absolutely follows in that tradition, ha ha!,” writer Greg Pak shared. “But she’s also got a no-nonsense, cocky, dangerous edge that makes her much less predictable than Norrin and a huge challenge to the villains—and heroes!—of the Marvel Universe. Dontcha dare miss DEATH OF THE SILVER SURFER #5 to see what’s next for both Norrin and Kelly — and the Power Cosmic!”

Pak wrote the series, which was drawn by Sumit Kumar and Tiago Palma.

The change comes weeks after Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: First Steps hit the box office, officially introducing fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the latest iteration of the popular comics group. In that film, Julia Garner plays Shalla-Bal, a previous iteration of the icon. Through Thursday, the movie has grossed nearly $521 million at the global box office.

The first four issues of Death of Silver Surfer are now available wherever comics are sold, while the fifth and final issue is set for release at local comic shops on October 29th.
