As we get closer to the start of Fall TV, there are teases of things to come for 9-1-1.
Of course, 9-1-1 Season 9 will deliver a Halloween-themed episode with much of its focus on Eddie. We’ve learned that he’ll have some form of “spiritual awakening.”
Eddie has long made fun of Buck about his belief in supernatural events, but it looks like he’s about to eat his hat … or helmet?
While many people hope for a Buddie moment to happen, Tim Minear made it clear to Entertainment Weekly that this “spiritual awakening” is linked to Eddie’s lack of belief in the supernatural.
Something is going to happen that will make Eddie finally start to believe that maybe the supernatural can happen, and it will have to be something that connects to one of two characters.
It’s either Shannon or Bobby.
Who else could it be?
A Día de los Muertos Shift Centers Eddie

As with every season of 9-1-1, there is going to be a Halloween-themed episode.
However, this season, it will take place on Día de los Muertos, which is the Day of the Dead in Mexican culture, so it only makes sense that it will be an Eddie-centric episode.
It also makes sense that it will bring an element of the supernatural, as the Day of the Dead is a chance to pay respect to the loved ones lost, and there can be some ghostly elements to it.
Considering the loss that Eddie has faced over the years, Shannon is the likely person to connect to this particular episode.
Eddie hasn’t allowed himself to fully grieve the loss of his ex-wife, as we all saw in 9-1-1 Season 7, when he couldn’t help but fixate on a woman who looked just like her.

This led to a breakdown in his and Christopher’s relationship, which took the whole of 9-1-1 Season 8 to fix, and we are starting the new season with Eddie and Christopher back in Los Angeles.
There are still likely ghosts of Shannon around, and Eddie could end up seeing visions to help him fully accept her death and move on in his life.
The more he sees ghosts, the more he is likely to start believing in the supernatural.
And it’s about time he stopped poo-pooing on Buck’s beliefs in the matter.
Bobby’s Ghost Could Appear

Of course, the entire 118 is still dealing with the loss of their captain, Bobby Nash, and this could be another ghost that Eddie starts to see in the upcoming Halloween episode.
Bobby played a huge part in inspiring who the 118 have become over the years, including Eddie, and we know that there will still be some memories of him throughout the new season.
However, the show can’t just focus on Bobby’s loss, as everyone needs to be able to move forward and honor him to accept the new 118 captain in 9-1-1.
Remember that Día de los Muertos is all about honoring loved ones, and what better way than to have Eddie have his “spiritual awakening” while getting the chance to say goodbye to Bobby.

He was the only 118 team member not to be there at the time of Bobby’s death, so he needs closure.
Eddie has certainly stepped away from his faith over the years, as he’s faced loss and hardship, but things seemed to look up for him at the end of 9-1-1 Season 8.
It’s time to see him open his heart and mind, rather than constantly making fun of Buck’s beliefs.
Something to do with Bobby or Shannon makes the most sense in a Día de los Muertos episode of 9-1-1.
But those are our theories. We’d love to hear yours!
