The Wells Foundation is back in action on Loot Season 3!

This Apple TV+ sitcom follows a wealthy billionaire who starts her own charitable foundation to use her money for goods and the friendships in and out of the workplace.

While Molly (Maya Rudolph) may be the face of the mission, she relies on her trusty assistant Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster) to keep her on track.

And if the true brains behind the Well Foundation’s operations is executive director Sofia (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez), then the charity’s hearty spirit is IT specialist Howard (Ron Funches).

In this exclusive interview, Maya Rudolph and Joel Kim Booster dive deep into Molly and Nicholas’ hilariously codependent friendship.

Additionally, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Ron Funches talk about seeing new sides of Sofia and Howard.

One of the best dynamics in Loot is definitely Molly and Nicholas, who have been essentially inseparable throughout the show.

Maya Rudolph and Joel Kim Booster Tease Loot Season 3

Regarding what Molly and Nicholas know best about each other, Joel Kim Booster answered that Nicholas knows everything about Molly, including her blood type.

“Nicholas knows more about Molly than Molly does,” he said.

Maya Rudolph agreed with this assessment and added that, for Molly, she gets to see Nicholas at his most vulnerable moments.

“The crux of their friendship is that they see each other,” Rudolph remarked.

“Molly is maybe one of the only characters that sees the vulnerability that’s really at the core of Nicholas and the thing that he tries to hide the most. And that’s why their friendship works so well.”

Not only do Molly and Nicholas understand each other deeply, but they also learn from each other over the course of their friendship.

Rudolph points to the loyalty between the two as essential to their tight bond.

“I love to play to the silliness of their co-dependence, but I also love that they are each other’s person,” she said.

Booster brings up the familiar rhythm of their intertwined lives and how watching that statis get interrupted by Molly rediscovering herself inspires Nicholas to reflect on his own life.

Another new development in Season 3 is Molly and Arthur’s fledgling romantic relationship, with Nicholas no longer the person closest to Molly.

Rudolph stated that Nicholas’ protective side comes out in Season 3 as he wants to make sure that Molly doesn’t get hurt.

Additionally, while Molly and Arthur’s friends might be happy that they’re together, Rudolph mentioned, “At the same time, we all know that those inter-office relationships tend to break ties and cause tension.”

Molly’s relationship with Arthur further forces Nicholas to do some introspection about his own life, now that Arthur is fulfilling the emotional needs that Nicholas used to.

“It leaves this gap in Nicholas,” Booster commented. “That’s what spurs him on to try and focus a little bit more on himself in this season.”

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Ron Funches on Sofia and Howard’s Reactions to A New Character

Molly and Nicholas’ friendship isn’t the only one that changes this season.

Sofia and Howard also get to share more screentime thanks to the introduction of Destiny (X Mayo), Sofia’s sister.

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez described Destiny as a “firecracker” thanks to her rambunctious, charismatic personality, which seems the exact opposite of Sofia’s.

“This forces Sofia to open up and become a person that she’s been in the workplace before,” she remarked.

Ron Funches noted that Destiny’s introduction allowed Howard to see a new side of Sofia that he had never seen.

He added, “Suddenly, there’s this new view of her as someone who’s a little bit more vulnerable, someone who’s got some issues of her own.”

This season also sees new parts of Sofia and Howard’s personalities as they undergo personal revelations.

“Anytime that Molly’s in danger or out of the ordinary, then we get to see how much Sofia cares about that friendship,” Funches commented.

And while Sofia figures out how to allow more vulnerability into her life, Howard, conversely, learns to stand up for himself and set boundaries.

As for scenes the cast is excited for fans to see, Rodriguez shared that she can’t wait for viewers to see how Sofia and Howard navigate a heartfelt moment.

“A lot of people haven’t gotten to see how the deep the relationship gets between Howard and Sofia… and how much of a friend she and him are to each other,” she stated. “I can’t wait until they really dive into that.”
