Switzerland has banned Hamas and affiliated groups, with the new law set to take effect on May 15, the government announced on Wednesday.
The move follows similar action by neighbouring Germany, which outlawed the organization less than a month after the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attack on Israel that killed about 1,200 people and saw around 250 abducted to Gaza.
The Swiss ban prohibits all activities and support for Hamas, and enables authorities to impose entry bans and expulsions. Officials said the measure also aims to block Hamas from using Switzerland as a financial hub.
