The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Episode 5 Threatens to Divide the Team

There’s no show on TV with the tone of The Librarians: The Next Chapter.

Every single episode features high stakes and potentially deadly scenarios, but the series never loses sight of the fact that viewers are here for a fun ride from start to finish.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Episode 5, was the most comical to date, mainly because many of our beloved characters lost their memories at several points.

Sadly, it was evident Laslo was the villain from the get-go, so I wouldn’t have minded some form of revelation that Rosalind was playing everyone and was, in fact, the individual pulling all the strings.

The series has excelled throughout its first four episodes with shocking twists that have changed the trajectory of the mission at the eleventh hour.

Perhaps the creatives wanted to take a different approach here, but it didn’t land as well as they probably expected.

The jeopardy introduced into the narrative, in the form of Charlie beginning to disintegrate from the timeline, heightened the stakes.

The Librarians: The Next Chapter Season 1 Has Been Comical

There’s so much potential with this character, thanks to her quick-thinking ability.

Without her, Vikram could have been wrapped around a lamp post because there was no way he was making it out of the vehicle in one piece.

The team needs someone like Charlie, who doesn’t think about the consequences, because one more minute and there’s a good chance Laslo’s master plan would have come to fruition.

The team has been formidable in the face of adversity, but sometimes luck can run out, and so far, luck has been on their side.

While I’m glad Charlie was saved, her reaction to her vision from the future didn’t instill much hope that things would get better.

There’s a good chance she witnessed something that will help her whenever the timeline inevitably reaches the point of her vision.

It seems we’re to assume she didn’t want to worry anyone, but I can’t shake this feeling that Lysa, Connor, and Vikram will see her not telling them everything as a betrayal of sorts.

If they had any information about it now, they could have looked out for the signs and potentially avoided what’s headed their way.

Then again, would anyone believe a vision of the future will become reality? If we all followed a dream or a vision, then the world would become an even crazier place.

The team is still newly formed in this sequel to The Librarians, and trust is the most important thing any of them can bring to the table.

Without trust, where can they go? Lies could manifest into full-fledged fractures in the team, which could pave the way for Jacob to return and put a pin in this mission before long.

Then there’s the Vikram of it all. He’s the Librarian and a fountain of youth, but he’s still struggling to get to grips with 21st-century technology and what it means for him when he’s faced with adversity.

He over-analyzes situations because his world-view is fundamentally different from the rest of the team.

Until now, that hasn’t been challenged too much. But I’m starting to sense an underlying frustration from Vikram because he’s accustomed to being in control of situations.

I guess that’s inevitable when he’s been thrust 200 years into the future. At some point soon, The Librarians: The Next Chapter would do well to confront Vikram’s past in the form of Gregor appearing in the present.

As much as I want Anya to appear somehow in the present, it seems like something that will happen much further down the line than the end of the season.

It may be the only thing that will allow Vikram to stop holding on to the past, but then again, how will he react when he learns just how close she and Gregor got?

A part of me is wrestling with whether Anya and Gregor’s relationship was built on love or if it was driven by Gregor’s desire to outdo Vikram.

So many questions, but very few answers… so far.

Can We Please Have More Elaine?

My biggest hope is that we begin to get answers to the more serialized questions as the series progresses.

One notable missing ingredient of this episode was Elaine. Her dry sense of humor has become one of the series’ strongest aspects, and frankly, the show needs to find a way to nestle her into every episode.

She’s that good!

What are your thoughts on Charlie almost disintegrating and her lie?

Do you think Vikram needs to come face-to-face with Anya and Gregor to allow him to move on with his life?
