Will Trent has become one of ABC’s best shows, thrilling viewers with weekly cases and character-rich stories.
The popular crime procedural features the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and the Atlanta Police Department (APD )solving crimes that often trigger their personal lives.
It’s one of the few procedurals that spends as much time developing the main cast as it does solving the cases. Tying back the cases to the agents has helped to flesh out the characters.
Many fans have been anxious since the cliffhangers in the Will Trent Season 3 finale, and it’s time to reveal what’s next. Who’s returning, and who got promoted?
Who survived, and will different people partner up next season? Will there be another time jump, and how will that affect the storylines?
How Did Will Trent Season 3 End?
The Will Trent Season 3 finale played like an action movie since a terrorist organization, Founder’s Front, targeted the GBI and had the GBI and APD divide and conquer.
Since they were split up, they did not have the full strength of the team, and these terrorists were able to infiltrate the GBI offices.
Will felt helpless when the terrorist barged in and threatened Amanda’s life unless they released Vince. He couldn’t help since he had to learn why they started these threats, and partially blamed his birthfather for being blind to Vince’s faults.
The series tried to inject humor by having Faith, Ormewood, and Franklin deal with a teenage archery team while fighting the terrorists.
These girls thought Ormewood was hot and reminded me of Katniss Everdeen with their fighting skills. It looked like they cheated death, but naturally, more terrorists arrived.
In an endearing scene, Will arrived to save the day, but all that fighting tired Ormewood out, and he fainted at home later.
Angie slowly grew more accepting of being pregnant after talking to Faith. Since she stayed behind, she overheard where Amanda was being held and formed a rescue plan.
Angie distracted them with her phone ringing and got Amanda out, but they shot Amanda again. Talk about guilt.
Angie and Will proved that they’ll always be friends, even if they’re not a couple, when he went with her to see her sonogram and ensure the baby was okay. He looked regretful of what might have been, but in the ending scene, Will only cared if Amanda woke up.
Has Will Trent Been Renewed?
ABC renewed Will Trent in April for a fourth season. This was not surprising since it’s ABC’s most-watched scripted series.
We’re excited to see more of Will and his adorable dog, Betty.
When Does Will Trent Season 4 Premiere?
Will Trent Season 4 has been held until midseason. It will likely premiere in January 2026. We will update you with an exact premiere date.
It will have 18 episodes again, like Season 3 did.
Will Trent Season 4 Cast
We expect most of the main cast to return as we saw them filming.
Since both Amanda and Ormewood’s lives were in danger in the Will Trent Season 3 finale, Sonja Sohn’s or Jake McLauglin’s time could be reduced initially.
Main Cast
Ramon Rodriguez as Will Trent, a GBI special agent who grew up in foster care.
Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, an Atlanta PD detective, who is Will’s oldest friend and used to date him.
Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, a GBI special agent and Will’s partner and who recently moved in with Michael Ormwood.
JakeMcLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, an Atlanta PD detective, who’s Angie’s partner. He recently learned he has a brain tumor.
Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, the GBI director, who was shot in the finale. She considers Will family.
Bluebell as Betty, the chihuahua that Will adopts.
Kevin Daniels as Franklin Wilks, who is an Atlanta PD homicide detective and Angie’s AA sponsor. He was promoted to series regular in Season 4.

Cora Lu Tran as Nico, Betty’s pet sitter, who lives in Will’s apartment and is non-binary.
Todd Allen Durkin as Captain Heller, the captain of the APD.

Yul Vasquez as Sheriff Caleb will return in some capacity as he and Will try to navigate their new relationship. We don’t know what status yet.
Scott Foley as Dr. Seth McDale will likely return as Angie’s boyfriend and the father of her baby.
Will Trent Season Plot Possibilities: What’s Ahead?
While it’s too early for ABC to release any official spoilers, Karin Slaughter recently appeared on Good Morning America. She offered a few teasers about Will Trent while promoting a new book.
We’ve included a few possibilities about the main cast, but we are unsure which cases they would include.
Instead of taking a time jump, Will Trent Season 4 will begin right after those horrifying cliffhangers.
While Slaughter didn’t say much, it’s telling that the audience will experience all the characters’ worries about Ormewood and Amanda together.
I didn’t think they’d kill either of them because there is so much story in their recovery and their relationships.
Will discovers who his family is.
Will has been on an emotional rollercoaster, nearly losing Amanda, and reuniting with his birth father simultaneously.
Typically, he has learned to only depend on himself, so now the writers have begun expanding both his blood and his found family.
Most of the people in Will’s life are women, so we’re excited to see him build a genuine rapport with Sheriff Caleb.
The Will Trent EPs shared how special Will and Amanda’s bond was, but they’ve never voiced their affection for each other.
Her getting shot could change their relationship, especially if she needs a long time to heal.
Amanda is used to being in charge. She may need to hand over the reins temporarily, and who better than Will?
Ormewood begins his brain tumor treatment.
Ormewood’s life is about to change. He won’t be able to keep his brain tumor a secret any longer.
I’m unsure how Will is going to feel about being the last to know, but I suspect the season premiere will feature many reveals in a hospital.
As Ormewood begins treatment, he’ll need to shift his priorities since he has main custody of the kids.
It would be the ideal time to bring back Gina, not to reclaim them, but for her reaction to his condition.
They were married for years. She should care about his health and help with the kids. If she doesn’t, Faith will step up. She’s become like family.
Angie learns more about herself during her pregnancy.
Angie never had a positive role model growing up, so, understandably, she feared getting pregnant.
I was so relieved that Faith reminded Angie how good she is with people. Hopefully, Faith will be a wealth of support to her during this pregnancy.
Most of Angie’s close friends are men, and she’ll need another woman who was a single mom to help her through this.
Hopefully, Dr. Seth will be around every step of the way since Angie deserves happiness and a healthy baby.
This is another journey we’re thrilled we get to watch every step of.
Is There a Trailer for Will Trent Season 4?
There isn’t an official trailer, but the willtrentabc Instagram account released a video of the cast back at work, which dropped some teasers.
New series regular Franklin (Kevin Daniels) looks prominently involved and may be sharing a desk with Ormewood. It’s hard to discern if they’re partnered up for the show or just having fun.
We gathered clues suggesting that Angie (Erika Christensen) and Faith (Iantha Richardson) could be partners, especially if Will temporarily takes over as GBI Director while Amanda recovers.
Amanda (Sonja Sohn) is also in the video, so everyone is accounted for, but we don’t have any info beyond that.
