In the meantime, here’s a scene-by-scene recap of Consequences.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

We open with Voight staring out of his window, drinking a cup of coffee. When he notices one of the leaves on his plant dying, he goes to tend to it. He notices something in the fireplace and seems torn up about it.

Trudy knocks on his door, and he lets her in. She brings him coffee and tells him that he should catch up with the commander so that they can work on getting the unit back.

She’s trying to get him to talk to the commander because it’s been a month, and she hasn’t seen or heard from him unless she shows up to check on him. The team is scattered everywhere, and Chapman is no longer speaking to Voight.

Trudy tries to advise him on the best approach to speaking with the commander, preferably one that doesn’t involve threats.

Voight takes her advice and catches up with the commander. He reminds him of the fact that all the misconduct charges have been dismissed, and his team has been on their best behavior. Voight tells the commander that Kiana Cook has just taken a permanent spot at the 17th precinct because of the long wait, and he doesn’t want to lose anyone else.

The commander is hearing him, but still not signing off on the unit. Voight relates the uptick in crime to his team not being at work. But the commander isn’t rushing through this process. He still wants to thoroughly review everything before signing off on anything.

He sends Voight back to keep working Rapid Response.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

We see that Atwater is still working patrol. At his house, Torres is unpacking groceries, and appears wistful when he hears sirens outside.

Burgess and Ruzek are having passionate sex. When they’re done, he gets a call from 15th to work there for something, and Burgess is still bummed because neither she nor Dante has their badges back.

Voight is responding to something with a neighborhood Auntie and her nephew when he hears shots fired and sees someone shot. He shoots out the tire of an offender fleeing, and he heads back because the elder woman he was just speaking to got shot by a stray bullet. Voight treats her as best he can while waiting for Ambo.

She’s bleeding out too much, and Voight has to plug the bullet wound with his finger as Ambo shows up.

He heads back to the DOA as someone almost tampers with the crime scene heading to the body, presumably to get the money in the victim’s hand. The second sergeant spoke to Commander Devlin, and Voight isn’t allowed to work this call.

Voight is frustrated that he can’t work the case, and the other sergeant is already fumbling the investigation. The EMT texts Voight to tell him that Aggie, the woman he was treating, coded in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

It prompts Voight to hit up one of the locals, whom he knows is into shady things, to give him information on the driver. Voight gets information and feeds it to Ruzek. He has him meet him off books at a local bar.

Ruzek heads into the bar to ask around about the driver, claiming the person hit his car and ran, and the bartender doesn’t want to give him information. A patron at the restaurant with some attitude asks Ruzek who he is and keeps saying that he has never seen him around here before. Imani, who must be undercover, keeps trying to stop him from talking because it’s evident that D, the guy she’s with, is trying to start something with Ruzek.

Meanwhile, Voight is impatiently waiting outside for Ruzek ,hoping he’ll come out with something. He notices when people start running out of the bar.

Things escalate inside with D coming at Ruzek, and Imani finally convinces him to go out back and run. She uses a broken bottle to hold off Ruzek, and he ends up telling her he’s a police officer when D runs out. She takes off running, and he goes after her. They struggle in the alley when Voight shows up with his weapon drawn and tells her he’s police.

She calls him an idiot and tells him that she’s ATF. They cleared her. Voight questions her about the driver and tells her about the dead woman.

Imani doesn’t want to give them much information or tell them about the deal she’s pursuing. And she demands her ID back and claims she doesn’t have to tell a beat cop anything. Ruzek is reluctant, but Voight tells him to do it, and she takes off. They follow her.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

Voight wants Ruzek to follow Imani, but Ruzek can’t be away from his beat for too long. So Voight takes it on himself. Ruzek asks again about Devlin and if he’ll sign off on them ever, and Voight doesn’t have an answer for him.

Instead, Voight calls Burgess for a favor off the book. She’s at home going nuts, washing dishes, and bored out of her mind. She’s disappointed when he says that they aren’t back yet, but she agrees to tell Imani.

Meanwhile, Trudy, who is still asking about Devlin and wondering if they’re reinstated, gets tasked with looking into Eva Imani.

She was detailed to the ATF straight out of the Academy and apparently doesn’t get along with others very well or has few friends. Burgess updates Voight on Imani, and they figure it’s a UC apartment. She claims she’s going to do a walk-by and stay on the phone with Voight as she does it.

Burgess hears Imani and someone arguing, and Burgess wonders if Imani has backup because the guy is getting really aggressive. When he starts attacking Imani, Burgess heads inside. She demands he stop, but he won’t listen, and she tells him she’s police.

He still won’t stoop. She goes at him, taking him down, and a whole fight ensues between him and the two women.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

The guy reaches for a gun and is about to shoot Burgess, which Imani warns her about, but Voight shoots the guy. He then tells Burgess that she has to go because she’s not on the job. She’s upset about it, but knows he’s right.

He tells Imani that Kim was never there, and she still wonders why he’s even there, and seems annoyed that he followed her and wonders what type of beat cop he is. Voight once again asks her about the job she’s working, and she reluctantly gives him information about how they’re going after a gun runner she only knows as Raptor.

The dead guy was supposed to give her a meet. And she’s still upset about that. Voight once again reiterates that she has to say Burgess wasn’t there.

Her boss shows up on the scene and reams her out for not following protocol and going at things alone, and Commander Devlin shows up too and wonders why Voight was there. But Imani not only backs him, providing him with a strong story, but says she can use his help.

Devlin seems hesitant, but Voight inquires if he’ll feel more comfortable signing off on all the bodies that will happen if this keeps goin,g all because he’s holding him back.

Voight accompanies Imani, in plain clothes, as they head to D’s place to search it for any more clues. They find a lead on the game console when Raptor from there reached out. They reached back for a meet.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

Imani and Voight meet up with Ruzek and Atwater at night to catch Raptor at this meet. Imani declines Atwater’s offer to sit in the car since he actually fits the description because, you know, she doesn’t play well with others and all of that fun stuff.

The person asks for D, and it’s a trap. They end up in a shootout with someone, and the person was used as a trap for them. They try to figure out who the guy was based on information that the person gives them.

Imani notes that they all work well together, like the Brady Bunch. They get a lead on the car being registered to a white guy who owns a building, who must be the one running things.

Voight tells Imani to loop in her superiors, but she wants to go cowboy, and Voight goes with her after sending a reluctant Ruzek and Atwater back to their beats.

They investigate the warehouse, obtain another lead on their perp, and Imani tries to call it in, but her boss doesn’t want to listen. Voight asks about the about the next steps, and they continue with the investigation, catching the perp in action.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

Imani gets in a scuffle with the guy, and they cuff him. They find the gun that killed the two people, and tons of guns.

Imani tells Voight that he needs to take the collar because her boss will cut the guy loose for someone bigger. She doesn’t care if she gets into trouble. She wants the guy to go to prison for the 23 bodies on him.

Voight goes to talk to Devlin again and asks for his unit back. Devlin claims that he’s not signing the unit back when it destroys everything that it touches. He won’t ever do it.

Voight tells him that he tried to do things the right way, and proceeds to pull the gun evidence out. They’re all weapons that Devlin and his predecessor signed off on and never reported. He threatens him that he’ll take it public since clearly Devlin was trying to cover his ass.

He demands that his unit be reinstated again that night. The commander caves.

(Elizabeth Sisson/NBC)

Voight is back at the bullpen, and Imani meets him there. Her supervisor fired her, so Voight asks her about the six people who were killed by Raptor’s guns in Chicago. She lists them all, and he recognizes that she’s someone in it for the right reasons.

He offers her a spot on Intelligence for a while. Imani thinks it’s a terrible idea and says that he won’t want her. Voight tells her that he’ll give her a long leash, and she agrees for a while.

The team is back, and Voight gives Burgess and Torres their badges back. He tells everyone to get back to work.
