The Australian government was reviewing a citizen-led petition asking to bar U.S. President Donald Trump, his family and his administration from entering the country in October 2025.
In October 2025, a claim (archived) circulated online that the Australian government was reviewing a citizen-led petition asking to bar U.S. President Donald Trump, his family and his administration from entering the country.
One popular X thread about the potential ban began, “BREAKING: Australia Could become the First Western country to permanently ban Trump, his family, and Members of his administration from its Country.”

(X user @politvidchannel)
The thread continued to describe Petition EN7254, an alleged petition to the Australian House of Representatives.
The claim also circulated on Facebook (archived), Instagram (archived), Threads (archived), Reddit (archived) and Bluesky (archived). Snopes readers wrote in, asking if the claim was true.
Petition EN7254 (archived), also titled “Ban Trump from Australia,” was a real online petition to the Australian House of Representatives, the lower house of the Parliament of Australia. The petition asked the House to “permanently ban Trump, his family, and his administration from Australia.” The 2723-signature petition was closed at the time of this writing and awaiting a response, according to the Australian Parliament’s petition website.
Petitions with more than 50 signatures generally receive a response from a relevant minister, according to the Australian Parliament’s website. Petition EN7254 had not yet received a response, though it had been 189 days since the petition closed at the time of this writing, indicating that it was still under review. Given the above, we rate this claim true.
We reached out to the Australian Parliament to understand the status of the petition and await a reply.
Petition EN7254 read:
Australians have VALUES of mateship, hard work, righting wrongs, and fighting for the underdog. We don’t need Trump here, a Putin aligned dictator who is spreading misinformation, hate speech and stands for the opposite of what we do. His actions are hurting and endangering OUR COUNTRY and we should ban him from coming here as an agent of hate and a danger to world peace.
The Australian government can ban people from traveling to the country. Recently, the government sanctioned Israeli ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich. Those sanctions included a travel ban, according to the Australian ABC.
It was unclear at the time of this writing whether Petition EN7254 would result in legal action. The petition appeared to breach the Australian parliament’s rules on “Good language,” which dictate that petitions could not “include a person’s name.” Petition EN7254 included both Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s names.
Though Petition EN7254 was closed at the time of this writing, a different one, Petition EN8418 (titled “Invite President Donald Trump to Australia”) remained open for signatures. That petition used similar language to EN7254, referenced similar national values of “mateship, hard work, righting wrongs, and fighting for the underdog” and named Trump and Putin but argued that the government should invite the U.S. President for a visit.
Australia last had a U.S. presidential visit from Barack Obama in 2014. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese visited Trump in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 20, 2025.
