Copal Cavalier is charged with the care of her newborn niece after her sister suddenly dies of a strange magical illness.
Red Hill is something I didn’t expect from Kickstarter; it was immediately compelling because it treats fantasy as a lived-in, political space rather than a backdrop for spectacle. Jaz Blair brings a storyboard artist’s eye to the page, grounding the story in clear visual language while letting character and atmosphere do the heavy lifting. The central hook is simple but effective: a city that seals magic out entirely, and a protagonist whose life has been defined by magic’s consequences. Copal’s journey is intimate, driven by grief, responsibility, and fear of repeating the past, yet it unfolds against a setting with real social tension, from human expansion to Ant-Kin resistance.
Issue one is deliberately paced, focused on world-building and quiet unease, setting pieces into motion rather than rushing to payoff. If you value thoughtful fantasy, political undercurrents, and settings that feel designed rather than generic, Red Hill is well worth your attention!

A badass, press freedom-defending, Nazi-punching redhead. Perri Chase takes on big tech, Russians, Nazis and her own Government!
I admit, as a journalist, The Press Guardian earns its weight in gold, by using pulp superhero DNA to confront very modern anxieties about power, truth, and information control. This final issue pushes Perri Chase into her most vulnerable position yet, isolated, targeted, and fighting enemies who do not just throw punches but shape narratives. What makes the project compelling is how it scales its conflict: street-level action against Nazis and conspirators runs parallel to institutional pressure from governments, tech billionaires, and media manipulation.
The series understands that control of information is the real battlefield, and it treats journalism as both a moral obligation and a dangerous act. This concluding chapter promises escalation without abandoning its core themes, forcing Perri to reckon with the cost of defending the fourth estate. For readers interested in politically engaged comics, pulp heroes with contemporary relevance, and stories that treat disinformation as a villain, The Press Guardian is well worth following to its end.
