Dark Horse Comics has announced Powers will return to mark its 25th anniversary, with a new 12-issue series, simply called Powers 25, this September. Writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Avon Oeming will be joined by colorist Nick Filardi and letterer Joshua Reed on the new volume, which will follow a new pair of detectives – one of whom has superpowers – in the series’ superhuman “power”-inhabited version of Chicago.

This new tale is a fun, dangerous, adult look at a world of heroes through the eyes of special homicide officer Detective Kutter and her brand-new partner, and the first power to ever make the powers division, Moebius Moon. Under the watchful eyes of legendary Captains Deena Pilgrim and Enki Sunrise, the new detectives run through a minefield of all-new dangers. A new unsolvable powers murder has Kutter and Moon questioning EVERYTHING about the world and their place in it.
Dark Horse publisher Mike Richardson states, “Brian and Michael’s work on Powers has been groundbreaking since its debut in 2000. We are thrilled to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a new series fans will love. I can’t wait to show fans these incredible stories from two of the best creators in comics today.”
Powers, which originally followed homicide detective Deena Pilgrim and her senior partner Christian Walker (an ex-power), kicked off at Image in 2000. It ran for a total of 98 issues and an OGN before concluding in 2020, all while moving along with Bendis to Marvel‘s Icon imprint in 2004, and DC in 2018. Dark Horse reprinted the whole run across eight volumes after Bendis moved his Jinxworld imprint there in 2021; this will mark the first new Powers material from the publisher.
Powers 25 #1 will be released on September 11, with covers by Oeming, David Mack, Mike Mignola, and David Marquez, which you can check out below. Future issues will feature variants by Stan Sakai, Scott Hepburn, Eric Powell, and Jill Thompson. You can also check out a three-page preview of the series at in the meantime, in a Variety exclusive.
