The summer reading lists have begun! There’s also adaptations news, a cover reveal, and more news for mystery fans!

For the love of whodunnit, whydunnit, and can you catch them!

I’ve become a huge fan of Rian Johnson’s work because it’s clear that he not only deeply understands the mystery genre but also deeply loves it, which shows in his very fun mysteries. “’Benoit Blanc movies are whodunnits, and [Poker Face] is a how catch ‘em,’ Johnson told NBC Insider. ‘It’s like Columbo where we show you who did it and we show you how they did it in the first 10 minutes of the episode.’” Rian Johnson on Difference Between “How Catch ‘em” Poker Face & “Whodunnit” Knives Out (If you’re interested in Johnson’s love of Agatha Christie, I wrote about it in Agatha Christie’s Fingerprints Are On Everything).

Super excited for this adaptation!

Netflix will be adapting S.A. Cosby’s All the Sinners Bleed into a nine-episode series! The book is for procedural and fictional serial killer fans with a small-town setting, and the audiobook has a great narrator, Adam Lazarre-White, in case you’ve yet to read the novel. All the Sinners Bleed Pits a Grieving Sheriff Against an Unholy Serial Killer.

Do you note the publisher of your favorite genres?

“The imprint also has tons to celebrate on the awards front — recently two of their long-time authors, Sulari Gentill (The Mystery Writer) and Katarina Bivald (The Murders in Great Diddling), took home prestigious Edgar Awards.” Poisoned Pen Press Has Blazed a Trail in Subgenres to Become a Leading Mystery Imprint.

July alone is stacked with a ton of mystery & thriller releases—I was just trying to wrangle that list into a shareable “here’s what’s coming out this month”—so imagine how many great books are coming out over the three months of summer! Goodreads has a bunch for you to check out: 72 of Summer’s Hottest New Mysteries & Thrillers.

Cover reveal!

Elle Cosimano’s fun mystery series will have book number six released in 2026, Finlay Donovan Crosses the Line, and you can see the cover: Finlay Donovan is Back on the Case in Elle Cosimano’s Latest Mystery Novel.

Yay for a renewal!

While this isn’t based on a book, it’s based on real history, and it’s a great show for fans of procedurals and serial killer plots. Women in Blue is based on the first all-women police unit in Mexico City, and it’s been renewed: ‘Women in Blue’ Renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+.

Netflix will adapt the new Dan Brown Robert Langdon Thriller

This is not the Robert Langdon Tom Hanks played in the film adaptations, but rather, Netflix will adapt Dan Brown’s upcoming thriller The Secret of Secrets into a new series: Dan Brown’s New Robert Langdon Thriller Is Coming to TV.
