If you thought we would finally be at peace from endless ship wars and lots of drama, well, you’re wrong.
Apparently, Amazon is not ready to let go of The Summer I Turned Pretty just yet. And to be fair, it’s one of their most prized series.
The show has amassed the type of viewership that makes other streamers jelly (no, not that one), and it only makes sense that they’ll try to capitalize on it as best as possible.
But should they?
From a business perspective, it makes sense, and many viewers are not ready to let go of the magic of Cousins.
Also, they’re dying to see what comes “after” as the series finale finally has Belly making a big choice in her life and presumably sticking with it.
However, the series finale also left many dangling threads, which makes sense in the interest of viewers who want to see the story play out further. Therefore, the best way to do that is via a film.
Jenny Han notes that there is another significant milestone in Belly’s life, and since the series finale never addressed it, the film will likely do so.

It will presumably take some of the sting out of the finale (for some viewers, anyway), but it’s hard to say if a film will dive into all the things that the final season lacked in a way to tell its story.
With 11 episodes, TSITP had to rush through so many things in a way that wasn’t narratively satisfying, especially for many of the characters.
And now, we’ll have an additional two hours to do more of the same, I guess.
If you’ve watched the finale, it’ll address some of the possible tension that went unaddressed, which could be serviceable for something.
But outside of that, I’m skeptical if a movie will do anything beyond make an event out of the final book’s epilogue.

There may be enough time to explore the characters properly. Still, it’ll focus on the central couple and finally give them the screen time that they sorely lacked in the final season overall.
It’ll explore what happens after their romance, and the final season will be the impetus for where the film picks up, as everyone gathers for another huge event. Belly undergoes another milestone in her life.
Call me a skeptic, but I’m already wary of what this film will mean to me.
I’m also exhausted from this series as a whole, and yet, they dangled something else over us, and a girl has to finish it to fruition!

But is there such a thing as “too much of a good thing?”
The final season spun on its wheels a lot, and they struggled to find a way to tell a cohesive story in the final season that was ultimately satisfying for all of the characters, regardless of resolving the triangle.
It’s doubtful that a feature film will rectify that much, but it does risk being too much in the sense of not letting the story rest where it is.
What do you all think? Let’s hear it below!
Be honest, is TSITP Movie a good idea, or should they just let it go? Let’s keep the conversation going — it’s the only way the good stuff survives.
