Only One Person Could Have Called Amelia Fredericks on Brilliant Minds (but It’s Too Obvious)

After initially meeting Amelia Fredericks in the six-month-later storyline on the Brilliant Minds Season 2 premiere, we got to see her in the present day.

Dr. Oliver Wolf has never heard of Amelia before, and it doesn’t appear that he’s familiar with Hudson Oaks either.

On Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 2, Amelia walks into the hospital to talk to Oliver’s latest patient, a woman struggling with psychosis due to IVF treatments, stress, and more.

Oliver is confused why someone from a private institution would be in the hospital, and it’s clear that someone had to have called her, but who?

There’s only one person it could have been, but this seems too obvious at this point.

Paging Dr. Charlie Porter

I noted that Dr. Charlie Porter is a mole for someone other than Muriel when discussing Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 1.

That someone has to be Amelia Fredericks.

I thought for sure that it would have been him who led to the development of Oliver heading to the inpatient facility.

And then the second episode turned it all on its head, with the reveal that Carol Pierce is the one to encourage Oliver to sign the papers to enter the facility.

Is it possible that Charlie isn’t a mole after all, or is Carol’s involvement a red herring — the end to it all that Charlie has set up?

You see, there’s really only Charlie who could have called Amelia into the hospital when it came to handling Lauren, the patient with Truman Show Syndrome.

If Carol had called, she would have mentioned it to Oliver, but she was busy with the board hearing to get her job back.

Muriel was busy with the board, and Dr. Thorne wouldn’t have called a private company when there was already a psych wing in the hospital.

So, it has to be Charlie, right?

Charlie Is Too Obvious

I keep coming back to Charlie and then thinking how obvious it seems.

Brilliant Minds doesn’t do something so obvious.

Of course, we’re only in the sophomore season, so there is a chance that an obvious storyline will emerge, but this show wants us to play guessing games about Amelia and who she is connected to.

Charlie is the newbie with an agenda, so it makes sense that he would be the one working with someone outside of the hospital.

He would have had time to make a call to Amelia, as we didn’t see much of him or the other interns as they figured out how to help Lauren, and we know that he is up to something against Oliver.

Amelia did say that she was just doing her rounds in the hospital, as she does with other hospitals, and learned about Lauren.

It is possible that this is a true statement, but I don’t take anything a potential antagonist says at face value.

If Brilliant Minds is going to work with the obvious route, my question then is, why would Charlie work with Amelia?

Is it possible that they’re related?

(Brendan Meadows/NBC)

Are they mother and son?

While they don’t have the same surname, that means nothing — both in the world of TV and in real life.

Amelia could have remarried, or Charlie could have chosen to take her maiden name as a way to avoid being connected to her in his medical career.

Perhaps they are siblings, which could explain the different surnames even more easily if they’re half-siblings or Amelia has married.

Again, it seems like an obvious (and a little too soapy) storyline.

After such a strong first season, I expect more from Brilliant Minds, but I’m still convinced that only Charlie could have called Amelia.

And if she did just happen to be at the hospital when Lauren was there, he bumped into her and suggested that she pay attention to Lauren specifically.

What I do know is that something fishy is going on at Hudson Oaks, and Amelia’s tone is just a little too sickly sweet for her to genuinely care about her patients.

With Charlie having a hidden agenda on Brilliant Minds Season 2, I wouldn’t be surprised if he and Amelia are working together in some way to help Hudson Oaks.
