As part of yesterday’s Stranger Things Day festivities (marking the anniversary of the events of the first episode), Netflix released the first footage from the upcoming animated series Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.
Developed by Glitch Techs creator Eric Robles, and animated by Flying Bark Productions (What If…?, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 takes place between seasons two and three, during the first winter of the year, and sees the original characters “fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorizing their town.”
Replacing the original cast are Brooklyn Davey Norstedt (WeCrashed) as Eleven; Jolie Hoang-Rappaport (In Your Dreams) as Max; Luca Diaz (Erin & Aaron) as Mike Wheeler; Elisha “EJ” Williams (The Wonder Years) as Lucas Sinclair; Ben Plessala (Wylde Park) as Will Byers; Braxton Quinney as Dustin Henderson; and Brett Gipson as Jim Hopper. Janeane Garofalo, Lou Diamond Phillips, and Odessa A’zion (I Love LA) have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
The show will premiere sometime next year. In the meantime, the fifth and final season of the original Stranger Things will begin with four episodes, arriving Wednesday, November 26, at 5pm PT, and you can watch the first five mins of the season premiere now:
The next three episodes will be released on December 25, and the series finale will follow on New Year’s Eve at the same time. Other TV spin-offs reportedly in the works include an anime, titled Stranger Things: Tokyo, and a live-action series Finn Wolfhard described as being like an anthology.
