The Best Time to Post on Threads in 2026 — Data from 2.5M Posts

If you’ve been around here a while, you’ll know that crunching the numbers to figure out the best time to post on all major social media platforms is basically our love language.

And now we have even more data to share about Threads!

Because even though Threads uses an algorithm to decide what you (and your target audience) see in the feed, when you post can have an impact. And now we have the data to prove it.

We analyzed millions of Threads posts sent through Buffer — 2.5 million posts, to be precise — to figure out if some time slots stood out in terms of post performance. (Spoiler: there were a few.)

Our primary metric for this study was median engagement by hour and day.

Let’s break down what we found.

Key takeaways

  • Best overall time: Thursday at 9 a.m. is the peak time for engagement, followed closely by Wednesday at 12 p.m. and Wednesday at 9 a.m.
  • Optimal window: Weekday mornings between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. consistently see the highest median engagement.
  • Best days: Midweek is best, specifically Wednesday, Thursday, and Tuesday.
  • Worst times: Evening hours (6 p.m. to 11 p.m.) and weekends (especially Saturday) tend to see the lowest overall engagement levels.

Best time to post on Threads

The best time to post on Threads is 9 a.m. on Thursday. Posts published then had the highest median engagement — that is likes, replies, and reposts — across all the data we analyzed.

Other high-performing times were 12 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. on Wednesday, making midweek mornings and early afternoons your best bet for maximum reach.

Generally speaking, the morning window between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. on weekdays is where you’ll find the most engaged audiences.

On the flip side, evening hours (6 p.m. to 11 p.m.) consistently underperformed across all days of the week. If you’re looking to maximize engagement, it’s worth avoiding those late-night posting slots.

As always, I like to look at social media platform demographics to paint a clearer picture of why this is the case (though it’s only theoretical).

Threads, which burst onto the scene mid-2023, now boasts around 400 million monthly active users. Plus, almost a third (around 29%) of Threads users were aged between 25 and 34 years, Statista reports. The 18-24-year-old cohort comes in second place, at 20%.

It’s a fair assumption, then, that most Threads users are part of the workforce, and prefer to check their feeds during morning breaks or lunch hours — before the workday gets too hectic.

🌎 Wait, what time zone? To make this data easier to understand, our data scientist Bufferoo has done some mathematical magic to make the recommended time zones universally applicable. In other words, no need to convert — consider all the recommendations local time. Whether you’re in EST (Eastern Standard Time), PST (Pacific Standard Time), or IST (Indian Standard Time), the times apply to you.

How can I find the best time to post for my own audience?

The best times in this guide are a solid starting point, but your specific audience might behave differently. Which is totally normal and expected.

Here’s how to find your best posting times:

1. Start with the data in this guide

Test posting during the recommended windows (like Thursday at 9 a.m. or Wednesday at 12 p.m.) for a couple of weeks. You can easily add these slots to your Buffer posting schedule following the steps above.

2. Think about your audience’s daily rhythm

If you’re targeting entrepreneurs or freelancers, they might check Threads at different times than corporate 9-to-5ers. With that in mind, you might want to throw in some times that aren’t on our ‘best times’ list.

3. Experiment with intention

Now you have a schedule. Try posting at these times each week and compare results after a month or two. Really commit to a cadence and stick with it, so you can gather enough data to make these experiments meaningful.

Don’t just eyeball it — actually track your social media metrics. If you’re a Buffer user, your sent posts list for Threads is a great place to visit frequently. Here, you can easily compare recent posts at a glance.

Pay attention to patterns — are your Tuesday morning posts always outperforming Friday afternoons?

4. Treat it as a bonus, rather than a must

The quality of your content and how well you engage in conversations will matter way more than whether you post at 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. Get the timing roughly right, then focus your energy on creating posts people actually want to respond to.

Checklist for high-performing Threads posts

A word to the wise: good post timing won’t save a mediocre post. While timing can help give a solid post a little boost, it’s not the key to social media success.

The quality of your content and relevance for your audience will always be the most important factor when it comes to performance on Threads (and any social media platform, really).

Here are some quick tips to help you tick all the boxes.

Find and own your niche

Threads rewards specificity. Whether you’re into music theory, social media strategy, or mushroom art, leaning into your interests helps attract the right kind of followers — and better conversations.

Use tags to reach the right people

Threads tags work more like topic signals than old-school hashtags. Thoughtfully tagging your posts helps them reach like-minded folks, and shows Threads what conversations you want to be part of.

Here’s a great example from Buffer’s Hailley Griffis, who regularly uses tags to make sure her posts show up in the right circles:

Prioritize conversation, not broadcasting

Comments are currency on Threads, and highly prioritized by the Threads algorithm. Spark discussions with open-ended questions or takes people want to respond to — and don’t forget to reply and jump into other people’s threads, too.

Here’s a great conversation starter by Threads creator Lennox Saint.

Just like on X, timeliness matters. Whether it’s a viral moment or a news headline, joining active conversations can boost your reach and make your content feel more relevant.

Threads has made it way easier in recent months with a Trending Topics feature that surfaces popular conversations happening right now on the platform. You’ll find them at threads.com/search, before you enter any search terms. (The feature is currently only available in certain regions.)

When you click or tap on a trending topic, you’ll see what people are discussing and can join the conversation by adding your own perspective.

Pro tip: Don’t force it. If a trending topic genuinely connects to your niche or expertise, great. If not, skip it and wait for one that does. Authenticity matters more than being part of every single trend.

Keep it real (and helpful)

Threads feels more “people-first” than many other platforms — and users seem to reward kindness, honesty, and vulnerability. Share useful thoughts, be a little weird, and don’t be afraid to show your human side.

Post consistently

Threads moves fast. If you’re serious about growth, post as often as you’re able — even just quick thoughts or a response on someone else’s post. This tends to correlate with faster growth, especially in the early stages of building your audience.

Engaging with trends like #GoodMorning or “Algorithm, connect me with people who like…” can introduce you to new audiences — especially when paired with authenticity.

Brands in particular see strong views with tongue-in-cheek trends like this:

Every Threads audience is different

While posting on Threads at specific times may yield brilliant results, it’s important to remember that all audiences have different behaviors. The times in this guide are general — they’re worth experimenting with, but it’ll take some work to find your personal best time to post on Threads.

How often should I post on Threads?

There’s no magic number, but consistency matters more than volume. That said, Threads moves fast — much faster than platforms like Instagram or LinkedIn — so posting daily (or even multiple times a day) tends to correlate with stronger growth.

The key is finding a rhythm you can actually maintain. If daily posting feels overwhelming, start with 3-4 times per week and build from there. Focus on showing up regularly rather than burning out trying to hit an arbitrary number.

Bonus tip: Threads isn’t just about your original posts. Replying to other people’s threads, jumping into conversations, and engaging authentically all count toward your presence on the platform. In fact, some of the fastest-growing accounts on Threads are incredibly active in the replies — not just posting to their own feeds.

(If you’re looking for help staying consistent, Buffer lets you plan and queue posts in advance, so you’re not scrambling to come up with something every single day.)

How do I get more views on Threads?

Getting more views on Threads comes down to a mix of timing, content quality, and platform-specific strategies. Here’s what actually works:

Post when people are online. Use the timing recommendations in this guide as your baseline — Thursday at 9 a.m., Wednesday at 12 p.m., and generally weekday mornings between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. tend to see the highest engagement.

Spark conversations, rather than broadcast. The Threads algorithm heavily prioritizes posts that generate replies. Ask questions, share hot takes (respectfully), or post something genuinely interesting that people want to chime in on. Posts with no comments won’t get much love from the algorithm.

Use tags strategically. Unlike hashtags on Instagram, Threads tags work more like topic signals. Use 1-3 relevant tags that connect your post to broader conversations your target audience cares about. Just don’t overdo it — spammy tag usage can backfire.

Engage with others first. This isn’t a “hack,” it’s just how Threads works. The platform rewards people who participate in the community. Reply to other people’s posts, join active threads, and be genuinely helpful or interesting. This visibility often translates into more views on your own content.

Jump on timely moments and Trending Topics. Threads, like X, rewards timeliness. If there’s a trending topic or news moment relevant to your niche, get in early with your perspective. Fresh takes on current conversations tend to get pushed harder by the algorithm.

Post consistently. Like most social media platforms, Threads favors active accounts. You don’t need to post 10 times a day, but showing up regularly (even just a few times a week) signals to the algorithm that you’re a consistent presence worth amplifying.

Make your content worth sharing. Reposts (Threads’ version of retweets) are gold for reach. Create posts that people want to share with their own followers — useful tips, interesting insights, or just genuinely entertaining content.
