Deep breaths, everyone.
We’ve gotten through the news of John Black’s death and family beginning to arrive to comfort Marlena.
Now all that’s left is the funeral, and Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 6-09-25 promise a celebration of the iconic hero’s life that is worthy of his legendary status.
The Key Word In These Spoilers is Celebration
While I’ve found the lead-up to the funeral sad, it’s been manageable, and hopefully the funeral will be too.
Don’t get me wrong. John Black arrived in Salem just before I started watching as a third-grader, so I was heartbroken when Drake Hogestyn passed away, and I want him to have the sendoff he deserves.
Still, the three soap operas I watch are partially a way of escaping from the pain and drama of the real world, and three weeks of tributes to John Black have been tougher than I’d prefer.
However, the funeral is being billed as a celebration of John Black’s life, and it seems like there will be as much laughter during the service as tears.
Several scenes in the spoiler video feature characters smiling during eulogies, and one scene has the audience laughing uproariously.
That’s not what you might expect at a funeral, but it’s true to life — there is always joy amidst sadness when you remember a life.

Eric Martsolf, who plays Brady, reassures audiences in various interviews that the funeral won’t be all gloom and doom.
Drake Hogestyn wouldn’t have wanted that, according to the actor, so the writers and cast took care to honor his wishes.
Still, that doesn’t mean these scenes won’t be incredibly heartbreaking.
I don’t think any of the cast members were doing much acting as they grieved for John over the past few weeks.
Hogestyn was still alive, and they were clinging to hope that he would make a recovery that never happened, but you can feel the pain in their performances — it’s all real.
The Actual Funeral Will Last Two Days
The memorial service will be on Tuesday and Wednesday and will likely include flashbacks as well as plenty of eulogies.
Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 6-09-25 promise a memorial display, eulogies from Roman and Kayla, Belle, Brady, and probably Marlena, and Marlena and Rachel talking about how John loved baseball and always said to “swing for the fences.”
That was one of Drake Hogestyn’s catchphrases. Hogestyn was a former ball player who loved the sport, and it’s beautiful that Days of Our Lives will include the phrase in their memorial.
I’m wondering if Bo will crash the funeral, not with malicious intent, but because he wants to grieve with everyone else.
A spoiler says Bo refuses to follow doctor’s orders, and I know that Bo will grieve in some capacity because Peter Reckell has been talking about how his grief was real during those scenes.
Hope didn’t want Bo to know about John until he was stronger, but she can’t in good conscience wait until after the memorial to break the news. Bo learning John has died will likely set off a series of events that lands him at the funeral.

John’s Death Is Only Part of Rachel’s Problem
Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 6-09-25 say that Rachel becomes progressively more upset during the week.
John’s death undoubtedly hits her hard, especially since her grandmother on her other side is missing.
Additionally, John knew how to deal with Rachel’s bad behavior better than anybody.
Love this show? We do too — and we want to keep writing about it.
Your comment or share can help make sure we get to. That’s the magic of supporting indie media.
He wasn’t overly permissive, and he didn’t allow her to manipulate him; however, he led with empathy when she acted out.
Rachel will miss that sense of visibility and love. She needs that desperately.

Still, John’s death is far from the only thing on Rachel’s mind.
She’s convinced that Johnny shot EJ — unless she did it herself and is lying.
I don’t think so, though. Her behavior is consistent with trauma.
Still, it’s possible that Rachel pulled the trigger and blacked it out.
This child is capable of heinous acts. She had no qualms about hitting Ava over the head, after all, even if her grandmother was the mastermind behind the kidnapping.
Does anyone else remember years ago, when Adrienne shot Duke and blocked out the memory?
This story is giving me serious vibes of that nature.

Don’t Worry — There Will Be Other Stuff Going On
The spoiler video is all about John’s funeral, so it might feel like it’s the only thing happening.
The majority of Days of Our Lives spoilers for the week of 6-09-25 do reference John’s sendoff, but it’s far from the only thing going on in Salem.
I’m especially excited about Jennifer, Julie, and Hope getting together. I’d love it if Hope could talk some sense into the other two women.
Julie’s insistence that Doug III did something unforgivable is grating on my last nerve, and if Doug Sr were still alive he’d be reining her in with this nonsense.
Similarly, Jennifer was completely unlikable in her unhinged rant about Cat Greene.

Yes, Cat pretended to be Abigail, and that was terrible, but that doesn’t mean Jennifer has any right to control (or try to!) who Chad dates or hangs out with.
She hasn’t been this annoying since JJ was a teenager — and by the way, where is he?
He didn’t appear to be in any of the funeral scenes.
Anyway, Hope always straightened Jennifer out when she tried to micromanage JJ’s life when he was a young adult, so she’ll likely be able to do it again this time.
Even if she doesn’t, cousin time with these two ladies is always fun.

Other spoilers I’m interested or intrigued by include:
- Ari confides in Tate about a secret. It’s probably that she slept with Doug III, because there hasn’t been enough drama between Tate and Doug already.
- Sarah and Xander clash over Victoria. It looks like we have a custody battle coming up.
- Kate sits vigil at Philip’s bedside. I’m waiting for him to wake up and either have amnesia, pretend he does, or finger the wrong person because he thinks he can get back in Xander’s good graces by pretending Xander didn’t nearly beat him to death.
